The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

From the Goodie Bag: Jott

In short, Jott is an online service that converts your voice into emails, text messages, reminders, lists and appointments. A few months ago I signed up for the Jott beta wondering if it would fade away as just another cool tech toy like so many others that have caught my attention over the years. Suffice to say I am still enjoying it's use and find it a very useful tool. As long as it remains free (not sure how they intend to monetize it) I keep my account active.

Signing Up for Your Account
When you sign-up for your free Jott account (currently in beta) you will have to confirm your mobile phone number via a text message code sent to your phone. Upon confirmation, your phone number will be recognized and associated (via caller id) with your Jott account. It's quick and painless and no credit cards are required. You'll be up and running in just a few minutes.

Using the Service
You are given a toll free phone number to dial when you want to "Jott" something or someone. I setup a hotkey on my Treo for dialing this number. When I'm driving I like to use Jott to send email dictations. The script goes something like this:

Steve: Presses the Treo Hotkey for Jott
Jott: "Who would you like to Jott?"
Steve: "Self"
Jott: "OK Jott yourself"
Steve: "new feature for tm equity..."
Jott: "would you like a reminder"
Steve: : "no"
Steve: hangup the call

Within just moments I will receive a highly accurate text transcript of this voice call via email. There will also be a link to the original voice content stored on the Jott site, which will require a validated login to listen.

In Summary
What I like about Jott is the convenience factor for taking dictation when I'm away from my desk. I do not, as yet, use it to send email to anyone other than my family and work partners.
